Farolitos, the small paper lanterns that are part of Hispanic culture, take center stage at Hanging of the Greens. During UNM's oldest student tradition, 13,000 farolitos turn the campus into a breathtaking vision of light. The main event begins at the UNM Bookstore, where a group of caroling students will start their procession to University House. After the presentation of a wreath to the UNM president, the evening concludes with a reception at Hodgin Hall that is open to the public. Guests are asked to bring an unwrapped children's book to be donated to the UNM Children's Hospital. Hanging of the Greens takes place on between 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. on Friday, December 1.
- Twinkle Light Parade - Nob Hill, Albuquerque, NM 87106
Who can resist the charms of a holiday parade? The Twinkle Light Parade travels a one-mile stretch of Nob Hill's Central Avenue, which is part of iconic Route 66. Participants include local businesses, organizations, and school groups, all hoping to be named Best in Show. Before the parade, Central Avenue will be closed to traffic starting at 3 p.m. to allow people to shop and dine. The parade kicks off at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, December 2.

Take in the spectacle of lights at Winter Wonderland from the comfort of your car. If you're ready for more after the 20-minute drive, which includes Christmas Tree Lane in the Electric Forest, take the walk-through tour in Villa Hispana. Disney princesses and other live performers are on hand, along with hot cocoa and food, local vendors, and photo ops with Santa Claus. Dogs are welcome for the drive-through portion. Winter Wonderland is open from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday with extended hours until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Watch the website for the announcement of opening day in November.

For a quarter-century, River of Lights has been one of New Mexico's more beloved holiday events. Each year, approximately 130,000 visitors walk through a fairy tale land featuring millions of lights along with animated and 3D sculptures.
