Up for a challenge? See how much you can complete of the 50-Mile Activity Loop. The multi-use trail, one of the more recent additions to Albuquerque's outdoor recreational facilities, offers a comprehensive view of the city for locals as well as visitors. Start and end your trip in downtown Albuquerque, with its eclectic assortment of shops and restaurants. Pass through Old Town before crossing the Rio Grande and heading into Balloon Fiesta Park. Along the way, views of the Sandia Mountains provide a beautiful background.

No need for a designated driver when you travel on the Duke City Pedaler. You provide the horsepower for this unique 14-seater party bike that takes you on a lively pub crawl through Sawmill and Old Town. Enjoy food and drinks guilt-free, burning off calories as you pedal between three stops on the 2.5-hour tour. Plan an outing with friends or ride solo and make some new ones. Tours depart at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. each Saturday. Tickets are $30-$35, and participants must be 21 or older with a valid ID.

In these times when telecommuting has become a way of life for many people, Bike to Work Day has morphed into Bike to Wherever Day. Embrace the benefits of eco-friendly travel by riding your bike to school, the grocery store, a friend's house, or, yes, even to the office. Complete the commitment form online and visit one of the pop-up tables around the city on Friday, May 17, to pick up some cool swag along with maps and information about biking in Albuquerque.
- Sandia Foothills Open Space
Adrenaline junkies love the thrill of flying down a single-track trail on a mountain bike. If this sounds like you, great riding is just minutes away from the city at the Sandia Foothills Open Space. The network of 28 trails is suitable for biking newbies and still challenging enough for experienced riders. Several varieties of grass and wildflowers, along with single-seed juniper and piñon trees, make for an interesting landscape. Keep your eyes open for coyotes, mule deer, cougars, rattlesnakes, and other wildlife, as well as a number of bird species. Hours are 7 a.m. - 9 p.m. daily, with closing time moving to 7 p.m. from November 1 through March 30.
