• In 2018, a new era in New Mexico sports was launched when the United Soccer League (USL) announced the formation of an expansion team in the state. After fans offered suggestions of 226 different names, New Mexico United was declared as the official choice.

• Eric Quill, head coach of the United, has played soccer since childhood. After a successful freshman year on the Clemson University soccer team, Eric chose to pursue a professional career, playing for six teams over a 12-year span.
  
  
• In addition to the team's official names, nicknames include "The Black and Yellow" and "The Kings of Chaos." "Somos Unidos," which translates to "We Are United," is the team's motto as well as the name of its non-profit foundation promoting "art, sport, community, and unity."
