Hot air balloons are a rare sight on most days, but not during the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Here are some more details about what you can expect if you decide to join them. 

About the Event

Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta celebrates the science and artistry of hot air ballooning. Every day for nine full days, hundreds of hot air balloons are launched into the sky, giving attendees a stunning view of their colorful exteriors rising over the New Mexico skyline. Most stay aloft for several hours during each day.

2024's Fiesta will run from Saturday, October 5th to Sunday, October 13th. The festivities begin at 6 AM or earlier each day, with some events starting as early as 4:30 AM. Most days end with an 8:00 PM fireworks show, but some wrap up earlier in the afternoon. Check the event schedule for more details on what's happening during the day you want to attend.

Pricing

You'll need a ticket to get onto the Fiesta grounds. Gondola Club tickets cost $130 per person and include private parking, exclusive seating, access to a gourmet buffet, and some souvenirs to take home. Chaser's Club tickets cost $65 per person and include patio seating and a hot food item with dessert and beverages from one of the on-site food vendors. General admission tickets cost $15 per person over 13 and is free for kids 12 and under.

If you're driving to the event, you may also want to use the on-site parking facilities. You can purchase a parking pass for an extra $20 a day. Park and ride services are available on some days for $25, including event admission. You'll also pay at least $15 extra to attend the Music Fiesta show on October 12th. Special seating is available for those who purchase higher-tier tickets. 

Finally, there are several camping and glamping packages available for those who wish to spend multiple days at the event. All tents are set up in advance by the event organizers, so all you have to do is show up and have a good time. You can even take the basic tents home with you when you leave!

Other Things to Do

The fun doesn't end with each day's balloon launch. On top of watching the balloons float through the sky during the daytime flight period, you can also attend a few smaller events on the ground. Visit the Balloon Discovery Center to see how the balloons work up close and learn more about the science that powers these airborne marvels. Watch skilled craftspeople compete in chainsaw carving exhibitions and participate in auctions where you can bid on your favorite finished projects. 

Live music will be playing every day on the Main Street stage, accompanied by a variety of professional dance performances. On October 12th, the event will also host the Music Fiesta, a separately ticketed event featuring headliners like LOCASH and Carly Pearce.

There are also some unique spectator events that you can only witness during the early morning and evening hours. Balloon Fiesta is particularly well-known for its Balloon Glows, events in which all of the balloons present fire up their burners at the same time and create a gorgeous display. Other displays include skydiving shows starring Team Fastrax (the world's largest parachute demonstration team!), drone light shows, and fireworks.

Finally, fast food restaurant Chick-fil-A will be sponsoring a Kids' Day on the Fiesta grounds on Friday, October 11th. Kids will get to participate in fun activities and receive a free goodie bag by visiting the Chick-fil-A tent.
